While formulas coming from the engineering manuals allow the correct design related to the conventional plant configurations at steady state, there are schemes which necessarily need to be calculated implementing an ASM through a simulation software.

Mass balance of complex plant configurations and internal recirculation of fluxes coming from the dewatering of anaerobic digestion sludge
Reproduction of the dissolved oxygen (DO) mass balance
Nitrite accumulation dynamics
